Basketball Recap: Randy Livingston Jr's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Newman over Landry

After flying high against Sarah T. Reed on Friday, Newman came back down to earth. The Newman Greenies fell just short of the Landry Buccaneers by a score of 55-53 on Saturday. The Greenies were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Buccaneers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.

Newman's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Randy Livingston Jr, who went 5 of 10 en route to 16 points in addition to seven assists and three steals. The game was Livingston Jr's 17th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Payton Foster, who posted seven points along with six rebounds and four steals.

Newman's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-5. As for Landry, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-9.

Newman will venture away from home to face off against Young Audiences at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Landry, they will welcome Kennedy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
