Soccer Game Preview: Marquette vs. Lafayette

The Marquette Mustangs will venture away from home to square off against the Lafayette Lancers at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Marquette comes in on seven and Lafayette on six.

Marquette barely beat Northwest the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Mustangs' defense stepped up to hand the Lions a 4-0 shutout on Thursday. Considering Marquette have won six contests by more than two goals this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, Lafayette narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Eureka 1-0. Give Lafayette's defense some credit: that's the team's sixth straight shutout.

Marquette's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 15 goals over those four matches. As for Lafayette, their victory bumped their record up to 13-7.

Marquette skirted past Lafayette 2-1 in their previous meeting back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
