Baseball Recap: Manzano Wins Going Away Against Capital

Manzano won the last time they faced Capital and things went their way on Saturday too. The Monarchs blew past the Jaguars 13-2. Considering the Monarchs have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Dayton Clay spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up eight Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Manzano is 3-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 8-11 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Aljaris Pineda, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, three doubles, and three RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Braeden Lucero was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Manzano kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Manzano's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-12. As for Capital, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-13.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Manzano beat the Jaguars by a score of 17-3 later that day.
