Baseball Game Preview: Lawrence County Wildcats vs. Central Magnet

Lawrence County and Central Magnet are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Wildcats will be playing in front of their home fans against Central Magnet at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Lawrence County came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 16-6 to Columbia Central. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Wildcats have suffered since April 4th.

Alex Bedford was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Lawrence County's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is 5-1 (and 10-13 when he doesn't).

Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Central Magnet's offense. They came up short against White House on Monday, falling 10-0. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, Central Magnet's shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Central Magnet's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-14. As for Lawrence County, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 15-14.

Lawrence County took their win against Central Magnet in their previous meeting on April 1st by a conclusive 12-1 score. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do Central Magnet have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
