Softball Recap: Temecula Valley's Losing Streak Snapped at Seven Games

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Vista Murrieta, Temecula Valley was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They blew past the Escondido Cougars 12-5. The result was nothing new for the Golden Bears, who have now won five matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Lilly Luna made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 1-for-5.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Samantha Light, who went 3-for-5 with one home run and six RBI. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Avery DePauw was another key player, scoring four runs while going 4-for-5.

Temecula Valley moved to 6-8 with that win, which also ended their seven-game losing streak. As for Escondido, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Temecula Valley will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Vista Murrieta at 3:30 p.m. on April 9. As for Escondido, they will challenge El Cajon Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
