Basketball Recap: Monticello Comes Up Short

Monticello was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They were beaten by the Washingtonville Wizards 76-40. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 785th, while the Wizards are ranked 129th).

Monticello lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Jayden Dempsey, who posted six points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Brendon Benbow, who earned nine points.

Washingtonville's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brennan Tesseyman led the charge by putting up six points in addition to six boards and five assists. Those five assists gave Tesseyman a new career-high. Mason Blauvelt-Mercado was another key player, posting nine points and five assists.

Monticello's loss dropped their record down to 2-17. As for Washingtonville, the victory was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-3.

Monticello has already played their next match, a 70-46 defeat against Minisink Valley on the 24th. As for Washingtonville, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 69-49 win against Valley Central on the 20th.
