Basketball Recap: Whitehall Extends Winning Streak to Six

Whitehall had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They slipped by the Hoosick Falls Panthers 37-36. Given the Railroaders' advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 105th, while the Panthers are ranked 376th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, Hoosick Falls still got an impressive performance from Ava Case, who went 9 of 20 on her way to 24 points and seven steals. That was a full 66.7% of Hoosick Falls' points, marking the sixth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Taegyn Hart, who had five points and nine rebounds.

Whitehall's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-2. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 22.5 points per game. As for Hoosick Falls, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.

Whitehall didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 37-13 win against Granville on the 7th. As for Hoosick Falls, they will host Greenwich at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Greenwich knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Hoosick Falls likes a good challenge.
