Softball Game Preview: Porter Cowboys vs. Edcouch-Elsa Yellowjackets

Porter is 2-8 against Edcouch-Elsa since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Cowboys will be playing at home against the Yellowjackets at 6:30 p.m. Porter's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Edcouch-Elsa's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Porter fell victim to Harlingen South and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hawks. The shutout was out of character for the Cowboys seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in March.

Meanwhile, Edcouch-Elsa can bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Donna a 12-0 shutout. The Yellowjackets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.

The team relied heavily on Melody Soto, who fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Ali Loredo, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3.

Soto wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Edcouch-Elsa lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

This is the second loss in a row for Porter and nudges their season record down to 11-8. As for Edcouch-Elsa, their win bumped their record up to 15-8.

Porter came out on top in a nail-biter against Edcouch-Elsa in their previous meeting back in March, sneaking past 4-3. Will the Cowboys repeat their success, or do the Yellowjackets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
