There's no place like home for Rye, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Walsenburg Panthers on Thursday as they made off with a 3-0 win. The Thunderbolts have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Panthers, too.
One reason for the win was Rye's just kept getting better, winning each set by more points than the last. The final score came out to 25-19, 25-8, 25-7.
Rye found their leader in sophomore Gloriana Ruiz, who had seven digs and five aces. Those five aces set a new season-high mark for Ruiz.
Rye was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 13 aces. That's the most aces they've posted since back in August.
Rye's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-5. As for Walsenburg, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season.
Rye wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 3-0 win against Rocky Ford on the 14th. As for Walsenburg, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Crowley County at 4:30 p.m. on the 21st.
