Basketball Recap: River Forest Sets Scoring Season-High Against Illiana Christian

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask River Forest). They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Illiana Christian Vikings on Monday, sneaking past 57-55. For the Ingots, this counts as revenge for the 54-29 win the Vikings walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2023.

River Forest was led to victory by Rayna Cary and D?Yanna Hurn. Cary went 5 for 10 on her way to 14 points in addition to six assists and six boards, while Hurn almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine boards. The matchup was Hurn's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Amy Arana, who posted six points and five rebounds.

Despite the defeat, Illiana Christian saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Keilah Mudde almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mudde has scored all season. Abbie Ritzema was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on ten points and nine assists.

The victory got River Forest back to even at 5-5. As for Illiana Christian, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. River Forest will challenge Whiting at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. River Forest has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last five games. As for Illiana Christian, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Hobart at 7:00 p.m.
