Preview: Hershey Panthers vs. Broken Bow Indians
The Hershey Panthers and the Broken Bow Indians will face off at 6:00 p.m. on December 19th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Hershey focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Saturday.
Hershey unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak. They took a 55-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of Ogallala.
Hershey's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Payton Jones, who scored 20 points along with three steals, and Emma Hall who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that Hall pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenna Bringewatt, who scored three points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Broken Bow scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They breezed by St. Paul on the road to the tune of 61-23. Given Broken Bow's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 33rd, while St. Paul is ranked 209th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hershey's loss ended a nine-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 4-2. As for Broken Bow, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-1.
Hershey didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Broken Bow when the teams last played back in December of 2022, but they still walked away with a 44-40 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hershey since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
