Basketball Recap: Airport's Win Ends Five-Game Losing Streak at Home

Airport's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 68-47 margin over the Gilbert Indians. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 21 points or more this season.

Airport had a senior duo take command as Ja'Sia Booth dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds and Angel Mayes posted 19 points and four steals. Booth is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. Niya Gore was another key player, putting up eight points.

Despite the loss, Gilbert saw an underclassman step up: freshman Alexis Gartmon put up 19 points along with six boards and five steals. Gartmon is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Blythe Price, who scored nine points and five steals.

Airport's win ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 10-7. As for Gilbert, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 11 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Airport has already played their next contest (against Aiken), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Gilbert will take on North Augusta at 6:00 p.m. on January 24th. North Augusta will roll in looking for their 13th straight victory, something Gilbert surely won't give up without a fight.
