Football Recap: St. Edmund Piles Up the Points Against Sacred Heart

The St. Edmund Fighting Blue Jays took their match on Saturday with ease, bagging a 55-6 win over the Sacred Heart Tigers. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Fighting Blue Jays' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 169th in Louisiana, while the Tigers are ranked 978th in Texas).

St. Edmund's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nathan Zaunbrecher, who threw for 252 yards and three TDs while completing 85.7% of his passes. Those three passing touchdowns gave Zaunbrecher a new career-high. Wyatt Dubois was in the mix too, providing St. Edmund with two touchdowns.

St. Edmund didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Lannie Reed and Ben Miller. Miller got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

St. Edmund has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 56.5 points this season. As for Sacred Heart, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Edmund will face off against Morgan City at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Sacred Heart, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Covenant at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
