Basketball Recap: Elba Takes a Loss

If Elba was riding high fresh off their 44-22 takedown of Palmer last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Elba Bluejays came up short against the Anselmo-Merna Coyotes on Tuesday, falling 62-36. The Bluejays have struggled against the Coyotes recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the defeat, Elba saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Addison Wysocki posted 19 points and six rebounds. Wysocki also set a new season-high mark in three-point shooting accuracy with 67%.

Makenna Miller continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Anselmo-Merna, going 10-for-14 en route to 28 points in addition to seven steals and six boards. Miller is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Rhianen Myers, who had five points along with seven assists and six steals.

Elba's loss dropped their record down to 5-18. As for Anselmo-Merna, they pushed their record up to 18-5 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season.

Elba does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Anselmo-Merna, they have already played their next game, a 52-29 victory against Central Valley on the 20th.
