Volleyball Recap: St. Mary's Starts Season with Loss on the Road + How To Watch

St. Mary had to start their season on the road on Monday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They fell 3-1 to the Riverside-Durham Pirates. The Saints were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pirates apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September of 2023.

St. Mary's was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Riverside-Durham work for it, especially in the first set. The final score came out to 26-24, 25-19, 14-25, 25-20.

Riverside-Durham was led to victory by Nureen Khan and Liesl Rehder. Khan had 27 digs and three aces, while Rehder had seven digs and five aces. Khan is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 27 or more in each of the last three games she's played.

The victory was the third in a row for Riverside-Durham, bringing their record up to 4-1.

St. Mary's will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Covenant Day at 4:15 p.m. on September 5. As for Riverside-Durham, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Vance County at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
