Basketball Game Preview: Central Academy Cougars vs. Monroe Redhawks

Central Academy is 0-10 against Monroe since January of 2017 but things could change on Tuesday. The Central Academy Cougars will face off against the Monroe Redhawks at 4:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Central Academy is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 43rd straight game dating back to last season on Friday. They had to suffer through a 75-41 loss at the hands of Parkwood.

Monroe has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They came up short against Forest Hills on Friday, falling 77-53. The game was a 37-37 toss-up at halftime, but the Redhawks couldn't quite close it out.

Despite the loss, Monroe saw an underclassman step up: freshman Janiyah Boyd posted 25 points and five boards. That was a full 47.2% of Monroe's points, marking the 15th time in a row Boyd has put up more than a third of the team's points. Dezire Hailey was another key player, putting up four points and 15 rebounds.

Monroe's defeat dropped their record down to 13-6. As for Central Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 0-21.

Central Academy took a serious blow against Monroe in their previous matchup on Tuesday, falling 82-22. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Boyd, who went 14-for-21 on her way to 32 points in addition to eight assists and eight boards.
