Baseball Recap: Watauga Has No Trouble Against Ashe County

Watauga barely beat Ashe County the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Pioneers put the hurt on the Huskies with a sharp 9-3 win on Thursday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 2-0 on April 1st.

Watauga got a great performance from Daniel Jones as he struck out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits.

At the plate, Walker Ransdell and Evan Burroughs did most of the damage at the plate: Ransdell went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Burroughs went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two hits gave Ransdell a new career-high. JJ Everett also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Watauga always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ashe County only posted an OBP of .290.

The victory made it two in a row for Watauga and bumps their season record up to 10-11. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Ashe County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-11 record this season.

Watauga will challenge Fort Mill at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Ashe County, they will face off against Patton at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
