Softball Recap: Wendell Takes a Loss

Declo hit Wendell with a four-run seventh inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Trojans fell just short of the Hornets by a score of 10-8. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Hornets this season, with their most recent loss being a 10-8 defeat two weeks ago.

Breanna Comstock spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and six unearned) runs on nine hits.

On the hitting side, Sophie Mattix was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Annabelle McRoberts, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Wendell is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 13-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 18-2 Malad (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 60.7% over those games). As for Declo, their win bumped their record up to 9-11.

Wendell does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Declo, they will square off against Malad at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Dragons will roll in looking for their 15th straight victory, something the Hornets surely won't give up without a fight.
