Softball Game Preview: Groveton Indians vs. Hemphill Hornets

The Groveton Indians will face off against the Hemphill Hornets at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Groveton has four straight victories, Hemphill has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

While Groveton's win against Corrigan-Camden wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Groveton sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 victory over Corrigan-Camden on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Indians have posted since March 2, 2024.

Meanwhile, Hemphill didn't have quite enough to beat Corrigan-Camden on Tuesday and fell 5-4.

Groveton's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-4-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Hemphill, they now have a losing record of 9-10-1.

Groveton came up short against Hemphill in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 5-1. Can Groveton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
