Baseball Recap: Port Washington Takes a Loss

Port Washington extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 4-7 in the process. They lost 12-5 to the Hartford Orioles. The Pirates were not able to make up for their loss to the Orioles from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Kyle Uselding was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Hoeft, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

As for Hartford, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games.

On Hartford's side, Brady Helms was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave Helms a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Adian Kolb, who got on base in three of his six plate appearances with three runs.

Looking ahead, Port Washington will challenge Homestead at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. The Highlanders have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.38 runs per game on average), something the Pirates will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Hartford, they will take on Grafton at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. The Orioles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Black Hawks have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season.
