Baseball Recap: Mesquite Makes It Four in a Row on the Road

After only one run in their last matchup, Mesquite made sure to put some runs up on the board against Gilbert on Monday. The Mesquite Wildcats were the clear victor by a 13-2 margin over the Gilbert Tigers. Considering the Wildcats have won four contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Jacob Martinez tossed a big game, tossing six innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Andres Lozano was a standout: he got on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Jacob Hogan also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.

Mesquite always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .558. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gilbert only posted an OBP of .185.

Mesquite's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Gilbert, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-7-1.

Coming up, Mesquite will square off against Mountain View at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Mesquite is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season. As for Gilbert, they will welcome Perry at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gilbert has given up an average of 7.1 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
