Softball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Kamryn Elliott and Leighton Burkett Lead Princeton to Victory

Princeton barely beat South Spencer the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Tigers never let the Rebels get on the board and left with a 6-0 victory on Wednesday. The win continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Rebels: they've now won three in a row.

Not much got past Brooklyn Turpin, who gave up just two hits and racked up six Ks to keep South Spencer off the board. Turpin has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Leighton Burkett and Kamryn Elliott did most of the damage at the plate: Burkett went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double, while Elliott went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Jaylyn McDaniel was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Princeton's victory bumped their record up to 5-15. As for South Spencer, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Princeton will venture away from home to challenge Forest Park at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Rangers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.65 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for South Spencer, they will square off against Tecumseh at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
