St. Pius X couldn't quite beat Central Catholic on Friday, but the two-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 28-point loss they were dealt last Friday. The St. Pius X Panthers fell just short of the Central Catholic Buttons by a score of 36-34. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Buttons apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2023.

Amir Parks-Brooks and Noah Carrasco certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Parks-Brooks gained 170 total yards and two touchdowns, while Carrasco threw for 283 yards and three touchdowns. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 59 yards. 107 of those passing yards were hauled in by Cooper Brown, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Even though they lost, St. Pius X was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 203 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2023.

Garrett Ticer was his usual excellent self, throwing for 293 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for 93 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries for Central Catholic. The dominant performance gave Ticer a new career-high in rushing yards.

St. Pius X's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-7. Their recent woes sure aren't a result of their rushing production: they averaged an imposing 122 rushing yards in those games compared to only 122 in the others. As for Central Catholic, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.

St. Pius X didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 48-18 victory against Savio on the 8th. Central Catholic has also already played their next match, a 42-41 defeat against Antonian Prep on the 8th.
