Baseball Game Preview: Elgin Maroons vs. Elmwood Park Tigers

The Elgin Maroons will square off against the Elmwood Park Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Elgin's hitters haven't had much luck over their past five matchups, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Elgin lost 13-2 to Streamwood on Wednesday.

Juan Carlos Betancourt was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

Meanwhile, Elmwood Park sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over Larkin on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tigers.

Mathew Sutherland spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up nine Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Elmwood Park is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 2-3 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Leobel Chan, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Aaron Godinez, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

Elgin's loss dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Elmwood Park, the win got them back to even at 4-4.
