Football Game Preview: Lawrence County Bulldogs vs. Powell County Pirates + How To Watch

The Lawrence County Bulldogs will venture away from home to take on the Powell County Pirates at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

On Friday, Lawrence County was fully in charge, breezing past Mason County 41-13. Given the Bulldogs' advantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky football rankings (they are ranked 40th, while the Royals are ranked 150th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lawrence County's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Caven Williams, who rushed for 150 yards and three TDs while picking up 9.4 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Johnson, who gained 139 total yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Lawrence County was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 310 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Powell County). They came out on top against Magoffin County by a score of 48-40 on Friday. Considering the Pirates' offense had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Powell County's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-3. As for Lawrence County, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.

Everything came up roses for Lawrence County against Powell County in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 48-13 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
