Softball Recap: Stevenson Finds Playoff Glory Versus Palatine

With a playoff win on the line, Stevenson rose to the challenge on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Palatine Pirates. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won 16 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Not much got past Ava Potempa, who gave up just three hits and racked up 12 Ks to keep Palatine off the board. Potempa has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Aubrey Jepson and Alyssa Shimanski did most of the damage at the plate: Jepson went 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI, while Shimanski went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Jepson has posted since back in April. Sophia Becker was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.

The win (which was Stevenson's 21st in a row) raised their record to 28-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Palatine, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 15-18-1 record this season.

Stevenson will square off against Mundelein at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Patriots' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 8.7 runs per game this season. Palatine does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
