Basketball Recap: Jeremiah Smith Key Part of Team Effort in Gators Win

Lake Marion posted their closest victory since January 4th on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Hampton County Hurricanes, sneaking past 64-61. This was a revenge game for the Gators: when they faced off against the Hurricanes two weeks ago, they had to take a 63-43 defeat.

Lake Marion's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jeremiah Smith led the charge by going 5-for-11 on his way to 20 points and three steals. What's more, Smith also posted a 63% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's posted since back in December of 2024. Mason Miles was another key player, going 6-for-10 en route to 14 points and eight boards.

Despite the loss, Hampton County had strong showings from Tyler Davis, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds, and Darius Brooks, who went 7-for-15 to rack up 17 points and three steals. Davis is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last seven games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jaquan Solomon, who went 5-for-11 on his way to 11 points and six boards.

The win made it two in a row for Lake Marion and bumps their season record up to 14-9. As for Hampton County, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-5.

As of now, neither Lake Marion nor Hampton County have any future games scheduled.
