Softball Game Preview: Minneapolis Southwest Lakers vs. Eagan Wildcats

The Minneapolis Southwest Lakers will head out on the road to square off against the Eagan Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Minneapolis Southwest has given up an average of 7.1 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Minneapolis Southwest is headed into the game having just suffered their biggest loss since April 11th on Wednesday. They lost 17-2 to St. Louis Park. The Lakers have struggled against the Orioles recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

Academy of Holy Angels hit Eagan with a four-run fifth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Wildcats fell just short of the Stars by a score of 6-5.

Jocelyn McClary put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one triple.

In other batting news, Greta Bergh was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double was her first of the season.

Eagan dropped their record down to 9-8 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Minneapolis Southwest, their loss dropped their record down to 6-8.

Minneapolis Southwest might still be hurting after the 13-3 defeat they got from Eagan in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Lakers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
