Marian Catholic (Ill.) point guard stands out with play, not size.
Short on stature. Big on game.
The eye test — it's what separates the five star recruits from the two stars. At first glance you might think
Marian Catholic (Chicago Heights, Ill.) point guard
Tyler Ulis is "too small" to play Division I basketball.

However, Ulis has proven on the court that he's not only good enough to play at the next level, but also good enough to be recruited by coach John Calipari and the University of Kentucky.
At 5-foot-9, 150 pounds, Ulis will be the smallest participant at the 2014
McDonald’s All-American game at Chicago’s United Center on April 2, where he will join fellow Kentucky commits
Karl Towns Jr.,
Trey Lyles and
Devin Booker.
Ulis is ranked as the No. 29 overall player in the 2014 class
by 247sports and is the fourth-ranked point guard in the country. During his junior year, according to stats entered on MaxPreps, Ulis averaged 21.9 points, 4.8 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 2.8 steals per game for a Marian Catholic team that went 30-4 overall and won the Class 4A supersectional title.
The favorites to contend for the Illinois Class 4A state title, the Marian Catholic Spartans are 21-2 overall and play at
Carmel (Mundelein, Ill.) Friday night.
