Baseball Recap: Bethlehem Catholic Takes a Loss

Bethlehem Catholic extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping them down to 4-14-1. They came up short against the Freedom Patriots, falling 15-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Patriots this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-2 on April 8th.

Emmett Burns was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

As for Freedom, they now have a winning record of 9-8. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won six matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

On Freedom's side, Santiago Rodriguez made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 4.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. Rodriguez was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Freedom's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is undefeated (and 6-8 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Colin Andrews, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Brian Renshaw, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Bethlehem Catholic will face off against rival Easton Area at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Freedom is set to square off against their familiar foe Northampton at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
