Basketball Game Preview: Newark Reds vs. Wayne Eagles

The Newark Reds will face off against the Wayne Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Newark is headed into the contest having just suffered their closest defeat since January 24, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of Geneva by a score of 63-60. While losing is never fun, the Reds can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 376th, while the Panthers are ranked 174th).

Meanwhile, Wayne entered their tilt with Midlakes on Tuesday with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Screaming Eagles 68-37. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 30 points or more this season.

Wayne pushed their record up to 15-1 with the win, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Newark, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-10.
