Baseball Recap: St. Charles East Gets the Win

After losing to Batavia the last time they met, St. Charles East decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Fighting Saints walked away with a 6-2 win over the Bulldogs on Thursday.

Joey Arend made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off eight hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Arend wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was James Feigleson, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

St. Charles East now has a winning record of 12-11. As for Batavia, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-16-1 record this season.

St. Charles East will have a chance to go back-to-back against Batavia: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
