Football Game Preview: Chincoteague Ponies vs. Greenbrier Christian Academy Gators

Two dominant backs in Camaury Davis and Tucker Basnight are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Chincoteague Ponies will be playing at home against the Greenbrier Christian Academy Gators at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Chincoteague will be strutting in after a win while Greenbrier Christian Academy will be coming in after a defeat.

Chincoteague gave up the first points on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They managed a 24-20 victory over Kenston Forest. Things were looking grim for the Ponies in the third quarter (they were down by 20) but they stormed back to get the matchup.

Chincoteague can attribute much of their success to JDarius Davis, who threw for 205 yards and two touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes, and Austin Adams, who picked up 61 receiving yards.

Meanwhile, Greenbrier Christian Academy faced Southampton Academy in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Gators lost 56-32 to the Raiders. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Gators have suffered since September 28, 2024.

Chincoteague will have to keep a close watch on Conner Isenberg and Tyson Moravec, a pair of players who had a big impact on Greenbrier Christian Academy's prior game. Isenberg picked up 105 receiving yards and a pair of scores, while Moravec threw for 231 yards and three TDs while picking up 10.5 yards per attempt. Greenbrier Christian Academy is 2-1 when Moravec posts three or more passing touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Parker Noland, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.

Greenbrier Christian Academy has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season. As for Chincoteague, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
