Basketball Recap: Saturday's Defeat Ends Burke's Winning Streak

It was a good run, but Burke unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell 57-44 to the Sissonville Indians.

Despite the defeat, Burke saw an underclassman step up: freshman Nathaya Phoenix went 9 of 15 on her way to 22 points and six rebounds.

Sissonville's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Makaela Ullman led the charge by dropping a double-double on 17 points and ten boards. With that strong performance, Ullman is now averaging an impressive 8.1 rebounds per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Kynadee Britton, who went 7 of 15 on her way to 20 points.

Burke's loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Sissonville, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-2.

Burke and Sissonville should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in their respective state rankings. Burke (ranked 75th) will meet Phoenix Academy (ranked 247th) at 10:30 a.m. on Monday. Burke is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.4 points per game this season. Meanwhile, Sissonville (ranked 25th) will meet Halls (ranked 300th) at 10:30 a.m. on Monday.
