High school basketball: Kiyan Anthony looks to continue family legacy as father Carmelo Anthony retires from NBA

Future basketball hall of famer and member of the NBA's 75th Anniversary Team Carmelo Anthony announced his retirement from the NBA on Monday via a video post on social media.

In the video, the 19-year NBA veteran claimed that his legacy would live on through his son's future.

"My legacy, my son it's in you. I will forever continue for you because the time has come for you to carry this torch," Carmelo said. "So (Ky) chase your dreams, let nothing hold you back. Let nothing intervene. My legacy now and forever lives on through you. And I will always be proud of all that you do."

Kiyan Anthony, a 6-foot-4 guard, is regarded as the No. 62 prospect in the Class of 2025 according to 247Sports. He will be attending Long Island Lutheran (Brookville, N.Y.) next season after spending part of his sophomore season at Christ the King (Middle Village, N.Y.).

Playing for Team Melo on the Nike EYBL 16U circuit, Anthony is averaging 15.1 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game while shooting 37.6 percent from the field, 26.4 percent from the 3-point range and 69.4 percent from the free throw line through 12 games.

Carmelo averaged 21.7 points, 8.1 rebounds and 4.0 assists during his senior year at Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.), leading the Warriors to the No. 3 spot in the national rankings with a record of 32-1. He participated in the 2002 McDonald's All-American Game alongside players like Chris Bosh, J.J. Redick and Amar'e Stoudemire

After winning a national title in his lone year at Syracuse, Carmelo was selected to the NBA All-Star Game 10 times, earned All-NBA honors six times and averaged over 22 points per game for his career with the Denver Nuggets, New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, Portland Trailblazers and Los Angeles Lakers.
