Volleyball Recap: Mira Mesa Marauders vs. Oceanside Pirates
The Mira Mesa Marauders didn't have quite enough to beat the Oceanside Pirates on Tuesday and fell 3-2. While the Marauders didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Pirates 25-16 in the first set.
Mira Mesa wouldn't go down easily and took Oceanside into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 16-25, 25-14, 25-16, 24-26, 15-13.
Kalilea Popperwill paced Mira Mesa's offense, picking up 11 kills. Popperwill got some help from Kanaiya Parham and her 16 assists. Popperwill was also solid from the service line: she led the team with four aces.
Mira Mesa's loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Oceanside, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-4 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mira Mesa will look to takes advantage of their home court for the first time this season as they takes on Foothills Christian at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday.
