Preview: Donna North Chiefs vs. Veterans Memorial Chargers
Donna North has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Veterans Memorial Chargers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Donna North will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1541st, while Veterans Memorial is ranked 282nd).
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 70-10, which was the final score in Donna North's tilt against Harlingen South on Tuesday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Donna North in their matchups with Harlingen South: they've now lost seven in a row.
Meanwhile, Veterans Memorial had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 43.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. The stars were shining brightly for them in a 40-25 victory over Weslaco East.
Daniela Sauceda continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. The contest was her 13th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Brianna Barnes, who scored nine points along with four steals.
Donna North bumped their record down to 0-18 with that defeat, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Veterans Memorial, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season.
Donna North was dealt a bruising 71-5 defeat at the hands of Veterans Memorial when the teams last played back in January. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Donna North was down 44-5.
