Softball Game Preview: Owen Warhorses vs. Madison Patriots

For the second straight game, Owen will face off against Madison. The Warhorses will head out on the road to take on the Patriots at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Owen is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games.

Owen's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They came out on top against Madison by a score of 5-0.

Sophie Neal made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

In other batting news, Mia Roland was incredible, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Hannah Norton, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double.

Owen hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Madison struck out nine times.

Owen pushed their record up to 13-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Madison, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-4.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Owen has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Madison struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
