Baseball Recap: St. Dominic Victorious

St. Dominic took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Eureka, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. St. Dominic sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over Eureka on Monday. This was payback for the Crusaders, who suffered a 12-2 loss the last time these two teams met.

Evan Maysent spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on five hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, St. Dominic's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Cooper Montgomery, who scored a run while going 2-for-2. Montgomery also put up a double, which was his first of the season.

The win made it two in a row for St. Dominic and bumps their season record up to 3-1. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.5 runs across that stretch. As for Eureka, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Dominic will head out to face off against Marquette at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Eureka, they will venture away from home to square off against Howell Central at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
