Softball Game Preview: East Bladen Eagles vs. West Columbus Vikings

For the second straight game, East Bladen will face off against West Columbus. The Eagles will be playing at home against the Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (East Bladen has four straight victories, West Columbus has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

East Bladen had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt West Columbus on Tuesday. The Eagles put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 10-1 win. With that victory, the Eagles brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Gracie Edwards spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, East Bladen got a massive performance out of Gabriella Bray, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Bray also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Martha Simmons, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-5.

West Columbus' loss dropped their record down to 2-8. As for East Bladen, the win got them back to even at 5-5.
