Preview: Hazen Highlanders vs. Bellevue Wolverines

Hazen has been on the road for four straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Bellevue Wolverines at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Hazen focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Wednesday.

Hazen suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Wednesday. They were outmatched by Lake Washington on the road and fell 81-48. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Hazen in their matchups with Lake Washington: they've now lost seven in a row.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Mia McCarthy, who scored 17 points. Dakota Nap was another key contributor, scoring five points along with six steals and five rebounds.

Bellevue posted their biggest win yet this season on Wednesday. They took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 68-27 win over Interlake. Given Bellevue's advantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 63rd, while Interlake is ranked 229th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Hazen now has a losing record at 9-10. As for Bellevue, their victory bumped their record up to 10-8.

Hazen didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Bellevue when the teams last played back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 50-45 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Bellevue's Syesha Simanton, who scored 14 points along with two steals. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Hazen still be able to contain him? There's only one way to find out.
