Softball Recap: Desert Christian Has No Trouble Against St. Augustine Catholic

Desert Christian was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against St. Augustine Catholic on Tuesday. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 16-4 margin over the Wolves. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 15-0 last Monday.

Mikayla Hodges was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Hodges was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Alexa Yarger and Aimee Lloyd did most of the damage at the plate: Yarger went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs, while Lloyd went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most hits Lloyd has posted since back in March. Lilly Crawford was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Desert Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in six consecutive games.

Desert Christian's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-15. As for St. Augustine Catholic, they dropped their record down to 7-11 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Desert Christian will venture away from home to square off against Tanque Verde at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for St. Augustine Catholic, they will head out to take on Morenci at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Wolves will need to watch out since the Wildcats have now posted at least ten runs in their last five matches.
