Baseball Recap: Orofino Picks Up Ninth Consecutive Win

Orofino had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it nine on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by an 18-9 margin over the Grangeville Bulldogs. Considering the Maniacs have won 12 matchups by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Reese Merry was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Quinton Naranjo, who went 2-for-6 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Orofino was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .409. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.

Orofino pushed their record up to 15-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Grangeville, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 12-7.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Orofino beat the Bulldogs by a score of 7-5 later that day.
