Basketball Recap: Roma Snaps Seven-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Roma hadn't done well against Nixon recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Roma Gladiators sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 49-46 victory over the Nixon Mustangs. This was a revenge game for the Gladiators: when they faced off against the Mustangs back in November of 2024, they had to take a 49-31 defeat.

Roma's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Samantha Montemayor, who went 6 for 10 on her way to 17 points. What's more, Montemayor also racked up two assists, the most she's had since back in November of 2024. Valeria Garza was another key player, putting up eight points in addition to five rebounds and four steals.

Roma's victory ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 11-15. As for Nixon, they now have a losing record at 12-13.

Roma will face off against Juarez-Lincoln at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Roma is facing Juarez-Lincoln at the right time seeing as Juarez-Lincoln is stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Nixon, they will take on Palmview at 6:00 p.m. on January 17th.
