Softball Recap: Barbourville Tigers vs. Whitley County Colonels

Barbourville extended their losing streak to nine on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 2-10 in the process. They lost 15-4 to the Whitley County Colonels. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Colonels this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 19-4 back in April.

As for Whitley County, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-18. Considering they have won ten matches by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Whitley County's part, Caylee Singleton made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Singleton has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run and one double.

In other batting news, Whitley County got a massive performance out of Jayden Barton, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave Barton a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Hallie Huddleston, who went 2-for-5 with two triples, three RBI, and one run.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Barbourville will venture away from home to face off against Berea at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Whitley County, they will head out to square off against South Laurel at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cardinals will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something the Colonels surely won't give up without a fight.
