Basketball Game Preview: Brownfield Cubs vs. Denver City Mustangs

The Brownfield Cubs will face off against the Denver City Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Brownfield sitting on nine straight wins and Denver City on eight.

Brownfield is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 107-35 victory over Stanton. Given the Cubs' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 271st, while the Buffaloes are ranked 1364th), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, everything went Denver City's way against Stanton on Friday as Denver City made off with a 74-54 win. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten contests by 20 points or more this season.

Brownfield is also on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.2 points per game. As for Denver City, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-6.

Everything came up roses for Brownfield against Denver City in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, as the team secured an 86-47 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Brownfield since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
