Baseball Recap: Madawaska Victorious

It's playoff time, and Madawaska had no trouble coming through when it counted. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Schenck Wolverines 7-6.

Matt Ayotte made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over 7.1 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Ashton Guerrette was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

Madawaska is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Schenck, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-7.

Coming up, Madawaska will challenge Katahdin on Thursday. The Owls' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cougars have averaged an impressive 8.7 runs per game this season. Schenck does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
