Baseball Recap: Gorham Fayette Takes a Loss

Gorham Fayette had lost nine straight at home dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 1-8 to make it ten. They lost 19-2 to the Holgate Tigers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Eagles of the 22-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Caleb Lerma was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one RBI. He also got a hit, marking his first of the season.

As for Holgate, their win ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-10. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Holgate's side, Zack Boecker made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Those ten strikeouts gave Boecker a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Holgate got a massive performance out of Austin Medina, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with four runs and one RBI. Those four runs gave Medina a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Vincent Peck, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gorham Fayette will square off against Emmanuel Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Holgate, they will welcome Wauseon at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
