West Rowan is 6-1 against South Iredell since March of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Falcons will look to defend their home field against the Vikings at 7:00 p.m. West Rowan is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
West Rowan is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering East Rowan just ended the team's ten-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mustangs. Falcons fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Mustangs since on Tuesday.
Brant Graham put in work no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
Graham wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Carter Durant, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that Durant has launched this season. Brice Knox was another, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
The home team had won the previous seven meetings between South Iredell and Cox Mill, and South Iredell kept the tradition alive. The Vikings skirted past the Chargers 5-4. That's two games straight that the Vikings have won by just one run.
Luke Snell looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Reid Johnson was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
South Iredell is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.9 runs over those games. As for West Rowan, their loss dropped their record down to 19-4.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. West Rowan has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .476. However, it's not like South Iredell struggles in that department as they've averaged .444. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went West Rowan's way against South Iredell in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as West Rowan made off with a 16-3 win. Do the Falcons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Vikings turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
