Recap: Haines City Hornets vs. Liberty Chargers
The Haines City Hornets had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They walked away with a 64-57 win over Liberty. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Haines City's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ixion Toro, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Deonte Fielder Jr, who scored 12 points.
Liberty's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mike Thelusme, who scored 11 points along with six assists and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Lawrence Kelley, who scored 16 points.
Haines City's victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-16. As for Liberty, their defeat was their seventh straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-16.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Haines City will square off against Durant at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Haines City has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 306 points over their last five matches. As for Liberty, they will head out on the road to challenge Lake Gibson at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Liberty focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Friday.
